Recycled ceramic and glass 'stone' material
The material we use for the Io’s disc looks like a normal stone or ceramic but is in fact an amazing composite material from a fantastic UK company who take ceramic and glass waste products and recycle them into a new type of ‘stone.’ The process looks a lot like making ceramic tiles but uses less energy and the product ends up with a minimum recycled content of 98%. We love this concept and the terrazzo style look of the end product is so beautiful, with each piece being totally unique. The heavy ‘stone’ is then waterjet cut to shape, before being assembled with the metal parts and light sources to create the finished wall light.
