Extrusion

We use quite a few extrusions for Hand & Eye products with both our A-Beam and O-Beam lights being made in this way. We have great factories that we work with in Italy and Germany who squeeze the clay through the extrusion dies and then fire them in enormous kilns. This process that is hard to get right since the extrusions are prone to warping during the firing process. Each A-Beam starts off as a 3m extruded piece, before being checked for bendiness and cut down to one of our three standard lengths of 1800mm, 1600mm and 1400mm. It sounds wasteful but the excess clay can be recycled and used again. Click here to take a look at the finished light fixture.

The O-Beam light also contains an extruded aluminium core and even and the bespoke diffuser piece is made by extrusion.
